And full speed ahead into June!

And full speed ahead into June!

Okay, I know, I know. I need to post more. But with Evie’s FIRST birthday quickly approaching (HOW HAS IT BEEN A WHOLE YEAR?! That sleep deprivation really messes with your head and time), she is getting herself into more trouble than ever and sleeps less than ever, meaning that what little free time I do have is devoted to cleaning the house, cooking, birthday party planning, and maybe a crochet project or two. And really, that works out great because it means that eventually I have a LOT to say.

So, until I have more time to do some decent posts, I’ll let these pictures give you a glimpse of life in our little household, for now.

A little of this outdoor time… (Not a lot, since it’s just too hot!)

A LOT of this…

Evie: So wait, you are saying those last few pictures have to do with me?

SAMSUNGOkay then, let me think about what they could be about!

Hope you enjoyed our picture-riffic post today! Hopefully there will be time soon to go into some more detail on all several of these great things we have going on. 🙂

Recently, it was my brother Jacob’s birthday, and I made him a special gift: a Link amigurumi figure from “The Legend of Zelda” games that he was a huge fan of growing up. He also loves playing Link on “Smash Brothers” and as soon as I came across this pattern from Tanoshimou and these accessories and great pictures from All About Ami.

Of course, I did make a few changes. The biggest change is that instead of the traditional green getup, I had Link in red, since that’s his favorite color!

I am thrilled with how my little buddy Link turned out:

The awesome part about this pattern is that his head can swivel! It was kind of funky to crochet the ball and joint for his head, but it actually turned out better than I thought it would! 🙂

Once he was done (A LOOOOONG process!) it was time for his shield, sword, and sheath!

2013-05-15 22.24.13  I followed Stephanie’s instructions mostly for the shield. The main difference was that I bought gray yarn JUST for this project, and so I used it for the back of the shield as well instead of blue.

As for the sword and sheath, I had to be a little more creative. I didn’t have any good dowels or materials for the “blade” so I crocheted it. Because it was a little bigger, I had to make the sheath a little bigger, too. I didn’t follow a specific pattern for either- I just eyeballed what seemed to work well in proportion to my Link.

After all that, you put it all together and TA-DA!

Jared had to inform me that I had the sword and sheath going the wrong way on Link (NERD ALERT!) so I had to do some small adjustments for his photo op and packaging to be sent to his new BFF Jacob, but all in all this was such a fun project. I think this makes up for the lack of gifts that I couldn’t send to Jacob when he was off doing missionary work in Fiji for two years. (Have you ever tried shipping anything to Fiji?! It’s ridiculous!)

Oh, and did I mention the hat comes off, too? So awesome. Seriously, get busy and make this for the resident nerds in your life. They’ll love you all the more for it. 😉

Crochet fun: Zombiebot

Crochet fun: Zombiebot
Crochet fun: Zombiebot

The Mister’s birthday was last week, and I had been working on a special project for him based on his recent renewal of love for all things zombies!

Welcome to the house: The Zombiebot (yet another Pinterest goody!)

SAMSUNG

HOW CUTE IS HE?!

This was a really fun project, just using simple spotted beige yarn (I used Vanna’s Choice Oatmeal from Lion Brand) and just some black yarn. It’s ALL single crocheting in the round.

Find some random screws and/or nails, a few springs (or in my case, some wire wound around a small screwdriver will work) and voila- your very own little minion.

I think that the hardest part was the assembly and stitching on the scars- mainly because I was a bit of a perfectionist. I wanted him to still have a little bit of “cuteness” even if he was a zombiebot, so I gave him a little scar-mouth smile.

This was a fun, quick project and Jared loves his new little minion. He will soon be living at Jared’s place of work to constantly remind him of what to do if a zombie apocalypse ever occurs. 😉

10 + 6 = Wonderful Weekend!

10 + 6 = Wonderful Weekend!

This past weekend was great for our household.

First, Evelyn turned 10 months old.

SAMSUNG

Seriously… this girl could not be any cuter. And she is shooting up from a baby to a toddler too quickly for me to keep up with her climbing, crawling, and walking along the furniture.  🙂

*sigh*… I love her so much.

Even more amazing to me, it was our 6 year anniversary.

benchiconOne of my favorite pictures from our wedding. OVER SIX YEARS AGO.

Dang, I was so much skinnier then.

Anyways, it was a lovely day. A family from church took Evelyn for a two lovely hours so Jared and I could have grown up time at a restaurant sans a baby. I forgot how easy life was to sit in a restaurant with just me to worry about. Amazing.

So, awhile back, I pinned this about traditional/modern gifts for each anniversary. (Yes, Pinterest again. HOW DID IDEAS EVER GET SHARED BEFORE THIS WEBSITE?!) And apparently, Year Six is the “Candy” anniversary. And you can supplement with iron and calla lily gifts. And I know I just started several sentences with a conjunction. And I don’t care.

Okay, moving on to the gifts. Jared and I were meant to be together, and this anniversary proved it.

First, Jared got a little potted calla lily plant with 6 lovely purple flowers on it. This man does his research on anniversaries.

Then I gave him one of his gifts. MANLY CANDY:

And then he gave ME a candy gift that made me laugh:

SAMSUNG

Personalized M&Ms. With “Jared + Elisabeth”, “Happy 6 Years”, and a picture of our faces from our wedding on them. In pretty purples and pink colors.

Now, you might think, “Why would that make her laugh? That’s a pretty thoughtful gift from your man.” And you would be absolutely right. (And there’s that AND again. It must have been that kind of day today.)

I laughed because of the gift I had him open up next:

SAMSUNG

Personalized M&Ms. That happened to say “Jared + Elisabeth”, “Happy 6 Years”, and a picture of our faces from our wedding on them. In our wedding colors.

We had essentially gotten the exact same gift for each other. Of course, my gift to him came in this AWESOME old-fashioned dispenser, but that is beside the point. This was just more proof that WE ARE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER.

Wuv, twue wuv.

Other than the M&M awesomeness, this last gift was amazing, too. It’s a handmade, custom necklace that is uniquely beautiful, and I love it.

I know I say it often, but right now life is being so good to me. I can’t imagine loving this little family of mine anymore than I do without my heart bursting out of my chest because it won’t fit anymore.

9 months, Easter, and Evie

9 months, Easter, and Evie

It’s a sobering thought when your first little person has now spent more time OUTSIDE of you than in you!  But our sweet Evelyn turned 9 months old last Thursday.

I know. She was not a fan of her pictures. But she has three more months of these photoshoots before I stop, so she’ll just have to deal accordingly.

(Sorry for the lateness of the pics, btw. Between me being sick -AGAIN- and family in town, I was taking life day by day!)

The past month or two, she’s developed this intense/excited look. It’s kind of like she really wants to say something and is super excited, but she just can’t get the words out. Here’s an example of it in photo- it’s cuter in person, though.

Grandma K. was here while the hubster was away being a judge at a FIRST Robotics regional competition, and Grandma K. made sure that Evelyn was a spoiled little girl and helped us splurge to get her some lovely things. I don’t think I’ve gotten myself new clothes since Evelyn was born, but I can’t stop myself finding cute things for her! (Grandma also helped us with getting our yard and garden back on track, but that can be a later post!)

We also got to celebrate Easter with Evie, and the best part was seeing my little girl look like a perfect angel in her Easter dress.

Straight from heaven, right? I cannot believe how lucky I am to live this wonderful life. Evelyn brings us all so much joy! I feel like my heart must have grown three sizes or more when she was born, and I wasn’t even that “Grinchy” to begin with!

Okay, before I get too sappy, I wanted to share Jared’s Easter basket. Since he loves zombie flicks and lately has been all about “The Walking Dead” and the zombie apocalypse, I saw these and had to special order them for his Easter basket.
