Glitzy art

Glitzy art

Since my post regarding my glitter art, I haven’t had a lot of time to get working on it like I wanted. But I have made some progress. I’m slowly working on getting together some basic pictures to show what I can do, and maybe if people are interested, I could do a custom picture for them.

Last time, I had finished this picture

Glitter Sunflower

And was working on finishing up my Bonnie picture.

Since then, I’ve also collected some fun and/or colorful pictures to do

And have finished a few of them, too.

I have my “work station” set up, and when I can sneak in some time, I have been glitzing up some pictures.

Time will tell if anything should/could come from this silly hobby.

So, shortly after my post regarding my silly art hobbies, I decided to make an account with Etsy.com.

(Warning: If you look at this website for more than 5 minutes, you will end up finding something you will spend money on. Don’t say I didn’t try to tell you.)

After perusing the art section for a short amount of time to see what kinds of things were there, I came across a few pieces of artwork that I really liked. Plus, I needed a cheap way of updating our bathrooms.

First, I found Black Baroque, who takes pages from antique books and does a print picture on top of them. The results are pretty awesome.

For the “Blue” guest bathroom:

For the downstairs powder room:

(All frames in this post were bought at Michaels, a store that is kind enough to give me and all teachers 15% off with their teacher ID badge. Score!)

The next store that really caught my eye was Teva Gallery. The colors and small details of her artwork just brightened my day. I couldn’t resist the appeal. It was only several days later that I realized that the artist is located in Israel and was shipping from there…But the end result? Totally worth the wait:

I have a vague idea of where these might end up… now I just need to convince my personal handyman to get them there. 🙂

So, what is the moral of the story? Does every story have to have a moral? Can’t I just share some awesome artwork I found? No? Okay, if you insist.

The moral of this story is: If you get an Etsy account, be prepared to spend money. And waste lots of time staring at lots of crazy or neat items you kind of want to buy but never actually would.

End of another visit

End of another visit

So, the past several days, we had my parents visit us here. Why anybody would want to visit Texas in the middle of summer, especially a Texas experiencing its third worst drought on record, is beyond me. We must just be worth it. Or perhaps it was just the lure of some cute grandpuppies.

Dorky Bonz

Yes, Bonnie can and does sleep like that for long periods of time. But I digress.

Anyways, there was a lot of chillin’ around the house, but we did go out and do things, too.

The Parents arrived quite early Saturday morning (2:30 AM, to be precise). That meant we spent a lot of time recuperating. from a late night (and I cleaned most of the entire day Friday because I’m overly paranoid about people showing up and my house not looking nice, so I was tired too) and Saturday was a chill day.

Other things that occurred with the Parents here:

1. Went to church

2. Went to the spa

3. Went to the outlet mall

4. Went to the normal mall

5. Visited Jared’s work’s annual convention downtown and admired all the cool machinery and software wizardry that his work affects

6. Was given a balloon, card, and a cake as a pre-birthday present

7. Ate at some of the good restaurants around here that didn’t follow my diet

Honestly, it was just too hot to do much during the day here to do a lot of meaningful activities. Even with the air conditioning on full blast, traveling in the car is still miserably hot in 105+ degree temps. That plus the fact that the back to school deadline is looming over me, I was rather moody, cranky, and unpleasant to be around. Fortunately, I think the dogs’ cuteness made up for all of that, too.

Despite all of that, it was a good visit. Times like that make me sad that we live so far from all our family and old friends, even though we have new friends here.

Good thing I have these goofs to keep me company during those lonely moments!
